Rachel Hemstock-Aphrodite Arts
What inspired you to launch your business?
I’ve always been interested in business, entrepreneurship, and economics in general. And, I’ve always been an artist, so the opportunity to bring those things together just seemed like a dream come true. I had already pursued a small business in the event design industry when I started wood burning. I instantly fell in love with pyrography - wood-burning - and almost immediately decided to focus on art as a business concept rather than a hobby. I was passionate about what I was doing for the first time. I slowly realized I was doing something unique from anyone else locally.
What is your passion?
My passion is art, or pyrography, more specifically. And advocacy, especially for children and the environment.
How do you start your day?
I usually start my day with a cup of coffee and music or a podcast while I drive through the country. Then I get to work.
Favorite local businesses?
Cafe Moxo, Penny Lane, Grab-A-Java, China Towne, Jerk Shop Go, Cloth & Oak, and The Taco Joint.
What do you deem as success in business?
Feeling happy and content, but not stagnant. And if you are bringing something to your community - that’s a great measure of success, in my opinion.
What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?
Comparison is the thief of joy, and it smothers creativity. And if you’re not a business owner yet but want to be, start. You’ll figure it out as you go.
