SYPG The Nutcracker Auditions Set for August 23rd
Springfield, IL -- The Springfield Youth Performance Group (SYPG), an organization spotlighting young talent from the Springfield area, will hold dance auditions on Friday, August 23, 2024, for its upcoming production of the classical ballet, The Nutcracker. Auditions will be held at The Grant Conservatory of Music and Dance, 501 West Elliott Ave, Springfield. Auditions are sponsored by Illinois Local.
Registration will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. with dance auditions from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be a brief parent meeting following the completion of auditions. Dance auditions are open to children ages 5 to 15 and numerous parts are available for both boys and girls. Children must be enrolled in a dance class at any dance studio to audition. They will be taught choreography at the audition. All participants must arrive by the close of registration and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Girls should have their hair in a bun and wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Boys should wear a white t-shirt, black pants and black ballet or jazz shoes. Email sypg@sypgfoundation.org to request an audition packet prior to August 23rd. There is a $75 performance fee for each dancer that is due by the first rehearsal.
SYPG will present The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Sacred Heart Griffin Auditorium, 1200 West Washington Street, Springfield.
Rehearsals will be held Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons beginning September 27th at the Grant Conservatory of Music and Dance. Generally, each performer will rehearse only one hour per week, depending upon the part, until full show rehearsals begin in November. A costume fitting will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on September 28th at Grant Conservatory. Specific time assignments based on parts will be sent out with casting and it should take 30 minutes or less.
The Springfield Youth Performance Group was founded in the summer of 2005 as a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the performing arts. SYPG’s mission is to encourage and cultivate the artistically talented youth in our community by giving them the opportunity to perform, thereby enhancing community awareness and appreciation for the performing arts.
