Kathryn Elder -Mockingbird Bakery
What inspired you to launch your business?
I was inspired to open a bakery in Rochester because it has been a longtime dream to open my bakery and have a place where people can gather to slow down and enjoy life. Rochester needed this type of place, and our community has come out in a big way to support us.
What is your passion?
My passion has always been to bring others joy through baked goods. My others are my family, books, and good coffee.
How do you start your day?
I start my day by grinding our locally roasted coffee and getting it brewed asap. The freshly ground coffee may be the best smell of all time. It is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
Favorite local businesses?
I love and respect all local businesses, especially now that I am one. You never know until you are in it just how challenging it is. I must give a shout-out to the ones I collaborate with Arrowroot Coffee, Redbud Coffee, Whimsy Tea, Reverie Apparel, and Cocoa Blue Chocolates. Every single one is just the absolute best!
What do you deem as success in business?
M journey is just beginning, so I am not sure what I deem as success in business. I love to see repeat customers and our regulars make me feel like we are succeeding in our version of business. I have a great team that has helped me build what the bakery has become. I would not have had the success I have had without them.
What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?
My number one piece of advice for business owners was passed on to me by another business owner, and it rings so true, knows your vision and trust in it.
