FREE nature event for families thanks to Smart Owl Coffee, Treehouse Wildlife Center, and Girl Scouts of Central Illinois
Three Illinois entities have joined forces to bring a nature-focused family day out in Springfield.
GIVE-A-HOOT with Girl Scouts of Central Illinois is presented by Smart Owl Coffee on Saturday, May 13, from 2 pm to 4 pm, at Camp Widjiwagan, aimed at kindergarten through 12th graders, and their families. Treehouse Wildlife Center will present a wildlife encounter and education program about owls and other indigenous wildlife, followed by a question-and-answer session. Water, Smart Owl Coffee, cookies, and coloring activities will be provided.
“The community has continued to support our family since launching our small business, Smart Owl Coffee, two years ago,” said owner, Faith Valenti. “To kick off the launch off our GIVE-A-HOOT program, designed to donate a portion of proceeds from our coffee sales to local non-profit organizations, we created this event with Treehouse Wildlife Center, our very first recipient.
“Both of my daughters are active Girl Scouts, and I was a Girl Scout, too, so we thought it would be great to get them involved. The Widjiwagan campus on Lake Springfield is a beautiful setting for this family event.”
Smart Owl Coffee launches its GIVE-A-HOOT program in May with the release of its new seasonal coffee, Essentials Blend. The first recipient, Treehouse Wildlife Center, a nonprofit in Dow, Illinois, will use the funds to offer educational programming to schools and youth groups in the area.
GIVE-A-HOOT with Girl Scouts of Central Illinois is open to the public. Parents must check-in their children. Children can be dropped off after check-in. Parents are invited to stay. Please fill out the registration link below.
