Brad Keltner Rescued n Repurposed Vintage Flatware

Brad Keltner, owner of Rescued n Repurposed Vintage Flatware at the Illinois Local Small Business Holiday Market 2024.

What inspired you to launch your business?

I’ve always loved to repurpose and remake things into something new. After 10 years of flipping furniture, I was looking into doing something not so heavy and easier to transport. One day, my daughter suggested that I make spoon rings. I told her I had made those in high school. I decided to make some, and now I am here.

How do you start your day?

I get up, have coffee, and head to the couch, where my Cocker Spaniel Livia and my Cockapoo Bosco are waiting for me. I check my emails and auctions and make a game plan for the day before heading to my workshop.

How does it feel when someone purchases a product or service from your business?

It makes me smile when I hear comments people make when they see the spoon rings; it brings back memories of them having some back in the day. It makes me feel good when someone likes my work and wants to buy it or talks to me about making them something special from their family silverware. We offer that service, and it’s so rewarding to see the emotions people have when they get their custom pieces; I love being a part of keeping those memories alive for them.

Favorite member businesses and why?

At the Holiday Market on Small Business Saturday, I saw hardworking, friendly members who helped each other out when someone needed a hand. They all took good care of their customers. We have gotten to know Tammy and Gordon from the Brinkerhoff Mansion. They hold events, missions, and other things at the mansion that we have been a part of. They are great.

What advice would you give to a new business owner?

Do something you enjoy that makes a difference, treat people right, be honest, and your business will flourish

What do you deem as success?

To me, success means working from home doing what I love, using the gifts I’ve been given to create for the people I meet.
