April Robbins-Skitopel / April’s CBD
What inspired you to launch your business?
I have been gardening most of my life, having been taught by my grandmother. She was well-known for her gardening skills. We noticed we never had any problems with bugs at our house and only when we were out somewhere else. I soon learned it is because of the herbs I grow. I then researched what we could do so that everyone could enjoy the outdoors like us, so we started the company.
What is your passion?
I am passionate about being outdoors and being with my family and pets. I enjoy being with my husband, children, and grandchild. I also enjoy many activities outside, from gardening to walking and running.
How do you start your day?
My day begins around 5 am with taking care of the inside and outside animals and then, most days, run outside unless it is bad weather.
Favorite local businesses?
I appreciatethe local businesses that gave me a chance and a start, such as Duda Ace Hardware in Staunton, St. Peter's True Value in Alton, Ace Hardware of Troy, and Country Market in Springfield.
What do you deem as success in business?
Success in business to me is having customers write reviews and share our products with their friends and relatives, which is the best marketing. Being able to grow and spread all over the state and into other states and then giving back to the communities that have supported us.
What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?
Stay strong and positive. Keep moving forward. Rejections and closed doors will always be there, but if you want to succeed, you must stay strong and positive and keep moving forward to the next one.
