Six questions with Nicholle Godar
What inspired you to launch your business?
My husband and I are entrepreneurs, so working for ourselves will always be our norm, BUT I truly never expected to start a birth work business. I have worked as a website designer and marketing professional; learning new skills to build a passion-based business seemed unattainable. But in 2018, the universe grabbed me by the hand and said, “let’s go!” and here I am, working as a birth doula, childbirth educator, placenta specialist, energy worker, herbalist, and birth and emPOWERment photographer & videographer. It’s a big variety of services that all works for the same cause: empowerment from within.
What are you most passionate about?
We only get one life, so I am most passionate about working with my husband to create one for our children that we never personally experienced: a life where we all have the freedom to travel, experience new cultures and people, pursue our passions, and learn as much as we can about this beautiful world.
How do you start your day?
I wake up just before my kids (1, 3, and 5) to have one cup of coffee in peace, do a quick meditation, and set my intentions for the day - even if it’s just: “Today will be a good day.”
Favorite local business to shop at?
I LOVE what Bewitching Botanicals is doing in the community. Jessica Lance is a special needs mother of five who has put her blood, sweat, and tears into creating a unique brick and mortar space that not only sells a wide variety of incredible products for all lifestyles, but unites the community and brings us all back to the basics of local shopping.
What do you deem as success in business?
For me, the emotional impact a business has on its consumers is the ultimate success. Am I changing lives? Is my work creating a lasting impact? Do my business values align with my personal values? Would I want to be a client here? If you do what’s right and treat people as people (and not $$$), you won’t go wrong.
What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?
My #1 advice to other business owners is to never forget your “why,” your purpose. Maybe it’s your kids or financial freedom or that badass luxury car or home. There is no right or wrong when it comes to your purpose, but there is direction. Commit to working every day for your purpose, and the millions of hurdles and fires and impossibilities that accompany business ownership won’t seem as overwhelming.
