Six Questions with Kayla Sturm -The Curator, LLC
1 What inspired you to launch your business?
While I've dreamed of running my own gift shop for a number of years, I only recently found the courage to just take the leap and open. I love visiting gift shops at home and during travel, to get to know the locals and experience art and goods I might not see anywhere else. It's a pleasure to be able to curate a selection of gifts from independent artists, authors, and creators across the globe, and I hope to soon be able to open a storefront in the downtown Springfield area, so that local artists can additionally showcase their work for maximum returns.
2 What is your passion?
My ultimate passion in life is helping people. Whether through service or random interaction, I like to know that every day, I've helped at least one person smile.
3 How do you start your day?
I start every day with a fresh cup of coffee as I answer the ravenous demands of two cats who insist they've never been fed before in their lives. It's not terribly inspiring, I suppose, but it's my magic.
4 Favorite local businesses?
I love all of our gift shops- especially Daisy Jane's, Once in a Blue Moon, and The Cardologist. Ad Astra Wine & Tapas Bar is second to none for drinks and atmosphere. The Keep Store's selection of refillables is incredible AND affordable AND planet saving- love them! Whimsy Tea Company is so chill, not to mention their tea selection! I can get my geek on at 217 Comics, and who doesn't love Dumb Records?! So many great choices in Springfield that it's hard to limit myself!
5 What do you deem as success in business?
Success in business is making a living while having fun.
6 What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?
I fear I may be too new to offer any sage business advice!
